FANCY PANTS [WINTER COAT]

I never get tired of this jacket. I've had it for four years now. It's so warm, comfortable, and neutral - my favourite kind! And these pants - another thrift find from my Buy Nothing New year (in 2012). I must confess, since not buying new things last year, my preference is now popping into the local op shop. I can't help but feel better about spending $6 on a pair of pants, instead of $60 (or more). It seems to work for our family's budget - especially while we renovate. The quality is usually fantastic - either brand new (still with tags on), or near new. My wardrobe options have increased in the last year, instead of decreased like you would expect when not buying anything new.

Time to be a little smug?

Have you tried op-shopping with much success? What is your preferred option - new or recycled?

A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2013.

Madison: We are learning about saving and spending.
Noah: Enjoying quiet time under his baby blanket, appropriately entitled Noah's Ark.

Can you believe that we are half-way through this year already?
I have truly enjoyed taking portraits of my lads, and look forward to the next half.

FANCY PANTS [BUTTON TOTS]

Hello Pouty Mouth. Child with attitude. And how cute is the Angry Birds tee? We won this little beauty last week over at Button Tots, and I just had to show you, because, CUTE! Since it arrived in the mail, I've been waiting for the right moment to give it to my lad. Saturday was the day. It was worn immediately, and then wore it to bed that night. And then worn the whole next day. I'm not sure if it will make it to the wash, as its disappearance will be noticed.

Thanks Julie. You have a gift. These tots (pardon the pun) are the bomb.

TABLE.

Is there nothing more pretty than fresh flora on the dining room table?

Last weekend was Food Club, and it was my privilege to host. A fabulous excuse to dress up the dining room, and get in touch with my creative side. It was so much fun rummaging through old scrapbooking supplies, ribbons, cutting up beautiful teal and burgundy leaves and putting them into teeny tiny bottles.

It isn't very often that a tablecloth is used at our place. So, the ambience of candles, dimmed lights, the smell of vanilla and cinnamon wafting in heavy aromas before dinner was served was almost as heady and enjoyable as dinner itself.

Oh! And here was the menu (the theme was gluten-free):

DRINKS
Peach flip
Punch

ENTREE
Grilled polenta wedges with spicy tomato sauce
Asparagus + goats cheese frittata

MAINS
Brown sugar glazed turkey meatloaf
Smoked salmon pizzas with a gluten free pizza base
Quinoa, zucchini + parmesan slice
Pear with Poppy Seeds, Fennel, Dill + Roquefort
Stuffed tomatoes with brown rice, mint + feta

DESSERT
Mini lemon, ricotta + almond cakes
Strawberry Choc Chip Sherbet
Choc Hazelnut Biscotti

Do you get a chance to dress up your table every now and then?

FANCY PANTS [CHOCOLATE + MARSHMALLOW]

I've been trying new food combinations that I've never tried before. After hearing about S'mores for a few years ago, the other night we finally did it: bought some digestives, Cadbury chocolate and marshmallows. It wasn't quite the fireside event, but the microwave did a fabulous job melting the chocolate and marshmallow. Sandwiching it all together was a indulgent and naughty treat we all enjoyed.

And then I thought, why not wear something as delicious? And so I did.

Have you ever tried wearing something you'd like to eat?

LATE ONE WINTER'S DAY...

It's been such a busy week. Two trips to Port Fairy to get the renovations finished, one of our biggest meetings of the year, entertaining guests, and not much sleep inbetween. This has been our week.

Battery Hill at sunset; the lads playing at Port Fairy wharf; love this man (and that mane); the tongue is a sign of much effort; about to enjoy the lollies my son shared with me and taking a second look at those paint-covered hands - must be the sign of progress; the warm dusk light; taking a break from renovating with a walk to Port Fairy Lighthouse.

Has it been a mad busy week for you? How are you spending this long weekend?
