WHILE YOU WERE SLEEPING...

Each evening around the time I go to bed, I check in on my sleeping children. Extra kisses are laid on their smooth baby cheeks, their warm breath on my face, a stroke on their little button noses, and a sigh and declaration about how much I adore them - especially Noah, my youngest. He receives extra attention. My husband usually laughs after I fuss (because it's stated out loud), and then responds by saying that I love him so much more when he's asleep.

That's because when this little fellow is awake, on one fine day he might:

1. Squeeze cough lollies into the phone re-charge console in the car.
2. Break the brand new floor sweeper.
3. Take the wrappers off giant chocolate easter bunnies and eat their ears in the supermarket aisle.
4. Hand-ball the greasy towbar, then wipe dirty hands all over clothes and car seat.
5. Fall over four times in the day, blood everywhere.
6. The highlight of today was breaking the glass cover of an ice cream shop - you know, the bit that you look through to choose your flavour. (No ice creams today, but a whopping big bill for Mum).

There might also be the odd tantrum, assertive demands, rude behaviour, loud yelling, and a comment (or four) by a passer-by about how extremely "active" he is, too.

It's true: I love him just as much when he's awake, but sleep brings such sweet relief.

Do you have a child that's full on in their waking hours?

  1. OMG!!! I have no idea how much that would cost, but man, that is quite a talent - to be the one kid that finally breaks the ice cream counter!

    Sweet dreams little one.

    1. Haha Claire. I KNOW! The whole street saw it. I couldn't exactly slink away without my children. (Although I really wanted to!)

  2. It sounds like he is 'personality plus', he certainly won't walk through life being ignored. Often kids like this grow up to be leaders and entrepreneurs! All the best and hang on to your seatbelts for the journey though mum!

    1. Oh carol - tell me about it! I think it's going to be a rough ride for both of us! But thanks for the encouragement. With a name like Noah, we sort of have high expectations!

  3. My baby boy, my third child... Think you have described him here!! I love watching him sleep. His little body fraught with activity and energy when he's awake, relaxed and calm in slumber.

  4. Oh WOW Kymmie! I think my Felix may have met his match in your Noah, haha! They can be such a handful can't they?? But you are SO right, once they're asleep you just miss them and can't wait for them to be awake and wide eyed and bushy tailed again. We're just gluttons for punishment I think. But Noah IS beautiful xo

    1. I think we need to keep Felix and Noah away from each other! Can you imagine the mischief they would get up to together??? You are right. I do miss him when he's a sleep and look forward to the next day with him. I'm not sure if I look forward to his ''adventures" though!
