COOKING WITHOUT A KITCHEN.

If meals are hard to plan in a fully contained kitchen, removing the oven/stovetop makes things even that much more difficult.

I must confess that I'm so glad my hubby purchased a thermomix for me for mother's day. It's kind of awesome: like a food processor, steamer, blender, dough mixer and stove all in one.

With a little bit of planning, I've been able to make super nutricious meals for my family, all the while minimising on take out (which is so tempting when you're renovating!)

And my head was held up the most when I made the following for dinner: potato and leek soup, spaghetti bolognaise and white chocolate mousse for dessert. My five year triumphantly claimed after each course, "Mum, that was just so yummy!"

Now, that rarely happens in this houshold, but there was a dinner hat trick here this week. And it made mummy very happy.

How about you? Did you do some menu planning this week to keep you organised? Or have you tried something completely new this week?

a day in the life of us

  1. I'm starting to get thermomix envy - and I'm so not a kitchen-appliance-envy kinda gal!! But it does sound soooo clever :-)
Well done on all your frugal and creative planning!!
Hope the reno is going well :-)

  2. My kitchen floors are getting done this week. If you can live without a stovetop (my worst nightmare), I can handle the inconvenience of living around carpenters.
Thanks for inspiring me! You're a fire cracker, aren't you? :)

Oh I'm so very glad hubby bought you the Thermie BEFORE the renos! I actually rarely touch my stove top these days (it's electric. I detest electric). The Thermie and my oven are all I need now...and the electric frypan every so often.

Sounds like a yummy meal - white chocolate mousse especially! (I AM a sweet tooth after all!)

How much longer until you have a fully functioning kitchen again?

  4. You're a marvel Kymmie! No oven or stovetop would leave me VERY tempted to indulge in takeout every night. Though my slowcooker is fast becoming my favourite cooking utensil in the house, so I could use that. Either that... or ALOT of toast! ;o)
Another gorgeous boy in this post xo

  5. Oh I was tempted to get a thermomix but the price is something that means I'll be saving for a while! Besides, I love my kitchenaid mixer - I couldn't retire it just yet!
I definitely try to meal plan every week/fortnight so I'm not in a fluster every day with what to cook... and you just dont have that luxury of time with young kids. Hope the renos are done soon so you can enjoy them! xo
