r is for rituals

Rituals: Build some rituals into your family life. They don't need to be complex.

I love routine.

Oh sorry, does it say rituals? I love rituals too. You know those little things we do every day, every week, every year that make what we do, what we do. You know, uniquely us. Uniquely our family.

Like our Tuesdays. We go to the pool. There is a swimming class during the term. And during the holidays we swim as well (yes, also on Tuesdays). There is lots of laughter and fun, and when it's all over, we dry off while eating our lunch. There's usually a special treat. And when it's warm out we go outside and run around.

Every Saturday night we have chips, cheese and tomato toasties, milo milkshakes and a kids' movie. It's all about the kids. (And fatty foods too.)

Sunday night is garden day. We dress up in our gumboots, we head outside, get muddy, eat salad for lunch and then have bangers and mash for dinner.

Wednesday is a day at Grandma and Grandpa's while Mummy has her Dress Up Day. Aaah, gotta love Dress Up Day!

Last week we even flew to Adelaide to be with my mum on her birthday, have dinner with all the family (see picture above of Madison with his cousin Emily at this particular event), even at the same cafe.

We love rituals in our house. And it seems the kids love it too.

Thank goodness, because I need them, and there's always something to look forward to.

But rituals seem so similar to routine, don't you think?

What rituals do you have as a family?

  1. we love routine and rituals in our house. With seven kids I find they are essential. We have a great morning routine, family night every Monday night and Friday night movie night. It helps me with my planning and it gives the kids something to look forward to! Naomi
